Recent Lectures
I've been presenting pre-concert lectures since first moving to San Francisco, after finishing graduate school in music and dance history at the University of Illinois School of Music in Urbana. I often ask my audiences to sing, to learn a dance step, and to ask questions, but I don't ever read from notes onstage.
Most of the research I do begins in the libraries of Harvard College and the New England Conservatory of Music; it results in both scholarly papers (presented nationally and internationally) and published articles in program books, musical scores, and reference works.
